A design that blends in with the scenery:
Evolving EV Charger Decorative Parts with Light Transmission Technology
With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EV), the installation of EV chargers in houses and apartment complexes is on the rise. In recent years, the residential exterior market has placed a growing emphasis on the harmony between buildings and their surrounding structures. Similarly, carports are now expected to feature seamless yet sophisticated designs that harmonize with the home’s exterior by using stone-like, metallic, or natural wood grain finishes. Consequently, the importance of product designs for EV charging infrastructure installed in carports that can be coordinated with the home’s exterior is becoming more pronounced. Nissha aims to meet these new demands with its unique decoration and molding technologies.
Seamless Appearance that Harmonizes with Residential Exteriors
By ensuring that the design of EV chargers complements the walls, pillars, and functional gateposts of the carport where they are installed, a more beautiful and refined residential exterior can be achieved. Nissha has been striving to realistically reproduce the textures of natural materials like wood and stone, as well as metallic materials, through diverse design expressions enabled by gravure printing processes. The technology that realizes these diverse design expressions—IMD (In-Mold Decoration)—allows ink to be transferred simultaneously during injection molding. Due to the thin ink film, intricate textures can be added to the resin surface by incorporating detailed patterns into the mold, closely replicating the texture of real materials. Nissha’s in-house CMF (Color, Material, Finish) design team can offer a variety of design proposals tailored to customer needs.
Reliable Functionality Coexisting with Design
Since EV chargers are typically installed outdoors, weather resistance is essential. With IMD, a hard coat layer that makes the surface easy to clean and resistant to scratches can be applied simultaneously during molding, thus avoiding issues commonly associated with natural materials such as dirt and degradation.
High visibility of electronic display screens is required both day and night. Nissha’s light transmission technology allows icons and displays to appear vividly only when the device is in operation, while seamlessly blending into the design when not illuminated, making the display and icons almost invisible. Nissha has been providing decorative value to the automotive and home appliance markets worldwide with its light transmission technology and the concept of “mutech (*1).” Leveraging the high technical capabilities cultivated in these markets, Nissha offers products that blend seamlessly with residential exteriors while being functionally sophisticated.
(*1) mutech is a coined term from “mute” × “technology,” based on the concept of “Less noise, More comfort.” It represents a product concept where Nissha’s decorative expressions and technology are combined to control the information overload (noise) on interfaces, creating a comfortable space.
