The four processes in creating Nissha’s Trend Vision

The trend research and analysis we do in the Design Team is made up of four main processes. We consider these processes to be key elements in creating a fully-finished Trend Vision worthy of Nissha – one that offers a birds-eye view.

Sources for Inspiration

Collect the information that influences our ideas. We identify those elements that could be relevant to our proposals from amidst the vast amount of information available. Previously, we have attended overseas fairs such as the Milan Furniture Fair and motor shows for research. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has cancelled many seminars and fairs, so our challenge is where to get information with that sense of reality.

To get around this problem, we gather information from research companies and collect highly accurate information by sharing event reports on a regular basis with CMF team members locally positioned in North America, Europe, and China. Additionally, all head office CMF team members carry out research in accordance with set monthly themes.

Trend Mapping

We collect a wide range of trend information throughout the year, which is grouped from a range of perspectives and then keywords are extracted. We read the overall trends and values from each group, deepening our insights through a process of organizing disparate information.

Workshop

We also hold regular workshops to brush up our trend analyses even further. In 2019, we welcomed an external facilitator and a younger generation with a fresh perspective, who, by providing input on mega-trends from a different perspective to us, helped lay out a future roadmap that will connect with the creation of our Nissha Trend Vision report.

In addition, to confirm the effects of our outputs, we hold discussions with Nissha’s Sales Department to review feedback of past reports, as well as the CMF Design Book and sales promotion videos created from these reports.

Defining Themes

We define a theme for the totality of the trends we have categorized through this analysis work. We extract one overall keyword in order to see how the times have changed from Trend Visions we have produced in the past, and to summarize the context of current trends. Then we give this new individual theme a name.
